HALIFAX – A army spokesman says the Royal Canadian Navy is working to establish a sailor who was singled out on social media for a tattoo on his arm with the phrase infidel within the form of a rifle.
Maj. Mark Gough, of Maritime Forces Atlantic, says the navy acquired phrase Tuesday from a Forces member who noticed the unique tweet from a buyer in a Halifax espresso store and despatched it up the chain of command.
The tweet features a photograph of a person’s forearm with the tattoo as he waits in line to be served and identifies him as “a navy guy” due to his uniform and hat.
Gough says the army is worried by any motion or behaviour by a Forces member that may exhibit intolerance or disrespect and is obligated to look into the circumstances.
Gough says the navy will contemplate whether or not any self-discipline is warranted as soon as it talks to the member.
