Epic Games has acquired photogrammetry startup Quixel and made greater than 10,000 Megascan belongings free for Unreal Engine builders.

For people who do not know, Megascans is a web based library which holds high-resolution scans of actual world issues. These can then be used to create ultra-realistic imagery in movies and video games.

“For the past decade, we have travelled to every corner of the world to build Megascans, and we have created tools that help artists focus on creativity,” Quixel co-founder Teddy Bergsmen stated. “Our mission is to scan the world and to build an ecosystem that unlocks triple-A level artistry for everyone.”

Thanks to the acquisition, Quixel is instantly halving the worth of Megascans, in addition to making them free to Unreal Engine four builders. On high of this, the 2020 variations of Quixel’s instrument units, Bridge and Mixer, shall be free after they launch in some unspecified time in the future later this 12 months.
