Man banging on RCMP detachment door in Fort Chipewyan, Alta., shot by officer

FORT CHIPEWYAN, Alta. — RCMP say a person who was banging on the primary entrance of the detachment in Fort Chipewyan in northern Alberta on Thursday night time was shot and injured by an officer.

It was simply earlier than midnight and the constructing was closed.

An officer had responded to the disturbance and a second Mountie who was off-duty noticed what was occurring and got here to assist.

Police say it was throughout an altercation that one of many officers discharged a firearm.

The suspect sustained a non-life-threatening damage and was transferred to hospital for therapy.

Neither officer was damage.

The Alberta Severe Incident Response Group, which opinions severe actions involving police, is investigating.
