Macron to Johnson: ‘You have one week to negotiate Brexit deal that respects EU’

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday advised British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the opportunity of a Brexit accord could be evaluated by the tip of subsequent week.

Johnson, in a phone dialog with Macron, “presented his latest proposals,” the French presidency mentioned in an announcement.

Macron “indicated that the negotiations should continue rapidly in the coming days, with the team of (France’s EU negotiator Michel Barnier), in order to evaluate at the end of next week whether an accord is possible, while respecting the principles of the European Union,” the assertion mentioned.

London hinted Sunday that it may soften its place on “problematic” elements of its Brexit plan, whereas calling on the EU to present “flexibility”.

Difficult discussions on Brexit are set to resume Monday between the British and the Europeans, who have broadly rejected Johnson’s bid to keep away from a “no-deal” Brexit on October 31.

Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne, whose nation at present holds the EU’s rotating presidency, mentioned Saturday he had advised Johnson it was “important to find a solution within a week” and the British chief “agreed with the timetable”.
