Canadian baseball fans left seething after MLB Home Run Derby skips national anthem

Canadian baseball followers had been fast to voice their displeasure after the MLB House Run Derby in Cleveland skipped enjoying the Canadian nationwide anthem Monday – with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays in attendance.

One Twitter consumer wrote that they had been “so disappointed” the anthem wasn’t performed, and that the MLB “should be ashamed they didn’t sing the Canadian national anthem” when there was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays competing within the derby.

One other Twitter consumer wrote that if the scenario was reversed and “the game was played in Toronto, and the American anthem wasn’t played…there would be complete outrage.”

Rookie sensation Guerrero Jr. didn’t appear fazed by the snub as he proceeded to break the record for home runs in a single round, inflicting the hashtag #PLAKATA, a Spanish slang time period utilized in baseball to explain glorious contact often leading to a homerun, to pattern on Twitter.
